Membership FAQs
Does proctor MD take insurance?
Yes. We are on most commercial insurance plans as well as Medicare and Medicare Advantage Plans. Please check with your specific insurance plan or contact our office to confirm.
Will there be any problem referring to specialists since you are not directly employed by one of the local health care systems?
No. We are able to refer to any of the specialists in our area. One of our strong points is that we know all the local specialists. Dr. Hamill has been practicing in Tacoma with Multicare for over 20 years! Dr. Pumilia has practiced in WA for over 15 years. With our smaller patient panel, we will have the time to make sure referrals are coordinated and done well, and to advocate for our patients when needed.
I am a patient at Cascade Eye and Skin, and Washington Gastroenterology. Would there be an issue continuing with them or will you be recommending other specialists?
No, there will not be a problem continuing with any specialists you currently see! Those are all specialists we are very familiar with, recommend highly, and will continue to refer to.
How will you coordinate with hospitals and which ones are you affiliated with?
We will be using Epic/MyChart through Multicare, so we will have full access to ER and hospital reports from Tacoma General, Allenmore, and Good Sam. This robust health record is also used by CHI/Franciscan, UW, and other local hospital systems - these records integrate easily. A major feature of our practice is that we will pay attention to any of our patients who are hospitalized and will function as an advocate if/when needed. If you are in the hospital for any length of time (generally > 48 hours), our medical assistants and physicians will monitor and touch base by phone or come into the hospital to visit you. We are very familiar with the ER and hospital doctors and work collaboratively with them.
I have been connected in most medical ways to Multicare for a long time! If I become a patient at proctorMD will I still be able to use their services such as blood tests and other lab work?
Yes! Through the Epic/MyChart system we will be able to order and refer for Multicare lab, X-ray, and other tests very easily. We can also order labs at Quest and LabCorp and radiology studies at TRA, Rayus, DINW.
Can a Health Savings Account be used for this program?
Possibly. You would need to discuss this with your specific health plan administrator. Under some plans, the membership fee is considered a qualified expense and is reimbursable. Our annual fee is not for medical services specifically, so may not be considered a qualified expense for FSA and some HSA. (Our concierge model is different from a concierge DPC/Direct Primary Care model - DPC physicians typically do not accept or use insurance and are self-pay for medical care)
